Girl Scouts annual awards luncheon scheduled for March 9

The Girl Scouts Council of the Colonial Coast's annual meeting and awards luncheon will take place Saturday, March 9 in Hampton.

The business meeting will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration and networking will begin at 8:30 a.m.

According to a press release from the Girl Scouts Council of the Colonial Coast, "The guest speaker for the day will be captain Mary Jackson who was the first woman to be commander of Naval Station Norfolk, the world's largest naval base. Jackson is currently the chief of staff for the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. She was previously honored by Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast as a Famous Former Girl Scout and by the Girl Scouts of the United States of America as a Girl Scout Great. Her speech will tie in with the theme for this year's event, 'Leading Her to Success!' At the awards luncheon, the Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast will honor this year's outstanding volunteers and staff with local and national awards, as well as years of service pins. Girl Scout community service projects and Girl Scout Gold Award recipient projects will be spotlighted during the event as well."

There is no cost to attend the business meeting. The awards luncheon will follow the meeting and costs $18 per person. Registration is required by Tuesday, Feb. 26 for both the meeting and the luncheon. To register for the event, visit gsccc.org.

The event will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center, 1700 Coliseum Drive, Hampton.
