Warwick High School students win Scholastic Bowl championship

The Warwick High School Scholastic Bowl team won the Peninsula District regular season championship, held Jan. 9.

According to a press release from the school, "The competition took place at Phoebus High School in Hampton with the top four teams on the peninsula competing for the district title, which included Menchville High School, Hampton High School and Phoebus High School."

The Warwick team has secured first seed in the Eastern Regional Tournament, which will be held Monday, Feb. 4 at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach.

Warwick High School is located in midtown Newport News and is a comprehensive high school serving 1,650 students in grades nine through 12. It is the oldest of five high schools in the city. Warwick opened in 1926 as Morrison High School. It became Warwick High School in 1948, and the school's facilities were expanded to their present size in 1968. Dr. Rory Stapleton serves as the school's principal, and Warwick's mascot is the Raider.
