Newport News juveniles arrested on murder charges

The Newport News Police Department charged a juvenile with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a juvenile, it was recently announced.

According to the Newport News Police Department, "The investigation led Homicide Detectives to obtain petitions for the arrest of two Newport News male juveniles in the death of Phyllis Felicia Vinston. On Thursday, Jan. 10 at approximately 7:53 a.m., NNPD Fugitive Unit Detectives and U.S. Marshals from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the 16-year-old in an apartment off of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. On Sunday, Jan. 13 at approximately 2 a.m. communications received a call of gunshots in the 2200 block of Madison Avenue. When patrol officers arrived in the area, several subjects were detained and one of the individuals was identified at the 15-year-old wanted for the death of Phyllis Vinston. He was subsequently arrested on the outstanding charges. Both suspects are being held in juvenile detention."
